1. Activities of Technology Park Ljubljana

Technology Park Ljubljana (TP Lj) represents an environment which facilitates an accelerated tackling of the issues of motivation, climate and flourishing of technological entrepreneurship. At the same time it is an interface in which researchers can directly sense the pulse of industry and the market.

TP Lj promotes the creation, operation and growth of technological companies. It ensures an adequate infrastructure and offers assistance in the areas of the market, finance and technology.

The primary activities of TP Lj are:
  • assistance in devising and verifying business plans,
  • seeking business and strategic partners,
  • linking up with financial institutions (initial and venture capital),
  • providing commercial premises with the widest range of utility and service connections at subsidised rents,
  • issuing internal guarantees for loans and concluding transactions,
  • training entrepreneurs,
  • fostering synergy among companies,
  • linking up with research institutes (personnel and equipment),
  • linking up with industry (production capacities),
  • commercial and technological advice,
  • providing reception/front desk service, photocopy room, lecture hall, server, security, restaurant, galley kitchen and more.
Based on experience we have combined some activities into groups, which provide expert assistance at various stages of the development cycle of the individual company (planning, start-up, maturing), while at the same time they ensure a common platform for various actors from different support institutions.


 
2. PLANNING (commercial concept, planning a company)
In the planning stage, Technology Park Ljubljana offers assistance in:
  • formulating ideas and motivating potential entrepreneurs in target groups (information, promotion and advice for students, auxiliary personnel, researchers, developers, employees),
  • verifying the commercial concept (use of the TEC algorithm, advice from experts in the field),
  • writing the business plan (consulting companies, help from experts),
  • seeking production and/or market collaborators (via existing institutions and networks and established contacts),
  • seeking founding capital (banks, funds),
  • drawing up articles of association and other company documents (consultants from the field, legal service),
  • evaluating and assessing business plans (procedure for joining LTP, obtaining expert opinions, interviews).
 
3. START-UP (start of company operations)
In the start-up stage, Technology Park Ljubljna offers assistance in:

  • training entrepreneurs (workshops for entrepreneurs, in-depth analysis of business plans, consultation with mentors),
  • administrative registration procedure (sequence of events, activities and forms),
  • obtaining the necessary permits for operation of the company,
  • ensuring infrastructure (inclusion of the company in the incubation centre, commercial, legal and financial advice, premises, service hook-ups and connections, administration, services related to the building: conference room, audiovisual equipment, canteen, store rooms, parking spaces, front desk, photocopying facilities, server, library, security and more),
  • design of representational material (hard copy and electronic form),
  • company promotion (international fairs, presentations, media),
  • obtaining adequacy certificates (CE, ISO, EM and so forth),
  • protection of industrial property,
  • internationalisation of operations,
  • organising office operations,
  • seeking financial arrangements for operations (capital deposits, loans and guarantees, leasing of laboratory and office equipment),
  • linking up with the research and industrial environments (personnel and equipment).
Companies can enjoy expert assistance and a subsidised environment for 1–2 years at the beginning of operations, and then they proceed to the maturing stage.


4. MATURING (operation and growth of companies)
In the maturing stage, Technology Park Ljubljana offers assistance in:
  • seeking expert personnel,
  • company management, positioning the company on the market,
  • internationalisation of operations,
  • formulation of a development strategy,
  • penetrating foreign markets,
  • training entrepreneurs,
  • tackling spatial and other infrastructural issues (operation of companies in the incubation centre, commercial, legal and financial advice, premises, hook-ups, administration, services related to the building: conference room, audiovisual equipment, canteen, store rooms, parking spaces, front desk, photocopying facilities, server, library, security and more),
  • seeking financial arrangements for operations (capital deposits, loans and guarantees, leasing of equipment and furniture, forum of entrepreneurs and financial backers),
  • linking up with the research and industrial environments (personnel, equipment and coordination among company directors).
 
The stage where the company operates and grows in a subsidised environment can last from 2-3 years (the entire period of maturing or stabilisation of company operations lasts 4-5 years).
 
In all periods of company growth, Technology Park Ljubljana also strives to promote synergy among companies, founders and their surrounding environment. It is significant that through long training periods companies can provide mentorship to younger companies, and that there exists a guarantee of mutual assistance in the operations of involved companies.
 
Moreover, TP Lj works to ensure the thematic training of entrepreneurs, a social life and to promote a sense of belonging.
